Responsibilities

Lab technician – Optical Communication Network and HPC Systems Facility (London)

We are looking for a lab technician with experience and passion for electronics, optics/photonics, networks, systems and software. The technician will work on optical system, network and AI testbeds coordinating all aspects of lab operations from test and measurement equipment control and automation, procurement, optical and RF testbed configuration, and electronic design, among others. A candidate might have some of the skills required but needs to be passionate about cutting-edge communication networks and HPC systems and be fast learner.

 

Responsibilities

  • Overall lab facility management.
  • Health and safety procedures.
  • Control and automation of RF & optical test and measurement equipment.
  • Overseeing and assisting in the set-up of optical communication network testbeds
  • Design of electronic circuits and PCBs.
  • Organise PAT testing of equipment; this can be outsourced. 
  • Monitor and organise calibration of equipment, which can be outsourced. 
  • ESD coordination, including purchasing equipment if needed, monitoring testing station monitoring, compliance, generating ESD checklists, and providing ESD training where required. ESD prep and grounding of workbenches and equipment. 
  • Assist with soldering, kit building, laying out of workstations, designing jigging and fixtures where required.
  • Organise shipping and receive parts to/from suppliers/manufacturers 
  • Generate Risk Assessments, COSHH forms, and other documentation. 
  • First aider – Not essential training can be given. 
  • Keep the lab tidy and in line with H&S legislation. 

Skills & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering, computer science or a similar field or 5 years of working in a test lab experience, ideally at Technician level.
  • Competent in handling optical fibres and optoelectronic devices.

FPGA Design Engineer
AI and HPC Networking (London)

We are looking for experienced FPGA Engineers to develop a high-speed network interface card. The engineer will work iteratively through a series of prototypes to ultimately deliver a production-grade solution. Responsibilities will include microarchitecture definition, implementation, and testing, as well as interfacing with software.

Responsibilities:

  • Microarchitecture definition in collaboration with the broader team
  • Preparing detailed technical documentation and presentations to stakeholders
  • RTL Implementation, synthesis, timing closure
  • Unit verification planning and simulation testing using SystemVerilog

Responsibilities will include defining the system-level verification strategy, coordinating test planning and implementation with the design team and external partners, and tracking progress to meet functional and code coverage metrics.

Senior Silicon Photonics Engineer (London)

We are seeking a Senior Silicon Photonic Engineer who can apply their knowledge and experience to design, implement and test PICs for optical communication networks. Design, develop, and test iterative product prototypes to get a product manufactured. You will have the opportunity to innovate at both component and system level. This role will include hands-on design, simulation, testing, and closely interfacing with fabrication and packaging teams and vendors.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and simulate photonic components and system-level functionality and performance
  • Prototype novel photonic components and architectures
  • Work closely with the fabrication team and external manufacturing partners for component design, process integration, and performance monitoring.
  • Develop component and system-level optical testing plans and optoelectronic testing setups. Perform hands-on photonic component and optical system-level testing. Work with the product team to transition/scale testing for performance evaluation.
  • Contribute to the expansion of our IP portfolio through patent filing

Skills & Experience:

  • 5 years of industrial experience in design and optimization of silicon/III-V photonic devices and photonic integrated circuits
  • Strong tape out experience with photonics foundries
  • Strong experience in photonic integrated circuits design CAD tools
  • Strong understanding of planar waveguide optics, both passive components such as waveguides, multiplexers/demultiplexers, tapers, couplers and active such as detectors, modulators, SOAs and lasers
  • Strong experience on RF/SI simulation and optimization, from components PCB/TIA/driver/optical components and systems
  • Good understanding of CMOS manufacturing process steps and constraints on the design of photonic devices
  • Proficient with mainstream photonic components and systems simulation and layout packages such as Lumerical, Synopsis RSoft, IPKISS

  • Develop DAC/ADC peripherals utilising QSPI, DSPI, and SPI interfaces.
  • Lead FPGA hardware design focusing on Intel (Altera) Cyclone V/Agilex 7 platforms, including memory interfaces and clocking architecture.
